La catedral romànica de Salisbury / The romanesque cathedral of Salisbury

Old Sarum és l'antiga ciutat que va precedir a Salisbury. Situada en un puig, sobre un antic fort celta i amb grans terraplens com a defensa, tenia problemes d'abastiment d'aigua. Per això la ciutat fou abandonada en favor d'una de nova construcció, arran del riu: l'actual Salisbury.

Old Sarum comptava amb una catedral, la qual va quedar sense ús amb la nova situació de la ciutat i la construcció d'una de més "moderna" d'estil gòtic. Pertant, la antiga fou deconstruida, com diria Ferran Adrià, i els materials reutilitzats. Afortunadament en queden els fonaments marcant perfectament el planol.

Old Sarum is the original city of Salisbury, abandoned in the middle ages in favor of a new location, near the river. In this way, the old site was left to the joy of the archaeologists.

The old cathedral was romanesque, but after it was decided to change the location of the city it was dismantled stone by stone and the materials reused in the new and modern gothic cathedral. But they left enough to see the layout of the former building!
